Job Description | FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Maintenance Leadhand, performs maintenance duties as assigned.
KNOW-HOW
The role requires the successful completion of an apprenticeship program as a mechanic. The incumbent must provide a 433A Millwright License.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
• Ensure personal tools and those borrowed from the tool crib are maintained in working order at all times.
• Perform maintenance or construction tasks as assigned by the Leadhand.
• Complete all work in a safe and efficient manner while adhering to all plant and department safety rules.
• Work in full compliance with approved safety regulations.
• Actively participate in monthly safety meetings.
• Regularly update the Leadhand and Area Supervision on progress to allow for efficient adjustments as necessary and report back to the Leadhand after completing each task.
• Maintain housekeeping standards for all equipment and workspaces.
• Provide weekend coverage and be available for call-in standby during off-hours as scheduled.
• Assemble and install machines, then test them to ensure proper functionality.
• Manage the layout and placement of equipment and machinery in factory settings to minimize downtime.
• Identify and repair problematic parts of machinery by running tests, making temporary repairs, or installing new parts.
• Dismantle older machines and replace them with new ones.
• Oversee preventive maintenance by identifying potential issues, removing worn-out components, lubricating mechanical parts and accurately logging maintenance activities
• Operate machine tools, such as lathes and grinders, to fabricate parts necessary for the overhaul, maintenance, or setup of machinery.
• Read blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
• Operate hoisting and lifting devices, including cranes, jacks, and forklifts, to position parts during installation.
• Repair and fabricate new and defective machine parts and install piping using pipefitting, threading, welding (MIG, TIG, stick) and brazing tools.
PROBLEM-SOLVING
Primarily involves routine application of experience. However, during call-ins, the incumbent must take unsupervised corrective actions to repair equipment as required.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Responsible for the safe and consistent execution of maintenance duties. Actions must align with practices and procedures established by supervision and management policies.
