Job Description

The Town of Arnprior is currently inviting students to apply for 2023 summer employment opportunities. There are a number of positions available over the summer months in various departments including Operations, Recreation, Clerk’s Office, and Museum.

Eligibility
In order to qualify for a position, students must be:
• At least 16 years of age or older;
• Enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary program on a full-time basis; and
• Returning to school on a full-time basis following their summer employment.

Conditional Requirements
A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is required prior to commencement of employment for positions working with members of the public (all ages). A VSC is completed on successful candidates who are 18 years of age or older. For positions with access to Town vehicles, the student must have a valid “G” driver’s license in good standing.

Administrative Assistant
Summary: Reporting to the Deputy Clerk the Administrative Assistant will assist in the day to day operations of the Clerk’s department. This includes assisting with the preparation of correspondence, cemetery and Operations department administration, registrations, licensing, and assisting the public by phone, email and in person. This position will also assist with records management, which involves scanning of documents, electronic file management, archiving and shredding. This position requires both strong organizational and customer service skills and the ability to prioritize varying demands. Enrollment in an Office Administration or Business Administration program, prior administrative and records management experience, plus proficiency in Word and Excel are an asset.
Term: May to August - 16 week term
Schedule: 35 hours per week – Monday to Friday
Compensation: $15.50-$16.28

Marketing Assistant
Summary: Working with the Marketing and Economic Development Officer the Marketing Assistant will assist with outreach to the public at summer events, prepare, coordinate and advertise the Sunday Market to potential vendors and visitors and operate the Town booth at the Market, interact with the public in answering inquiries and assist with other projects as required. Enrollment in a Business Commerce, Marketing or Event Management program would be beneficial along with strong interpersonal skills, social media awareness and photography skills.
Term: May to September - 16 week term
Schedule: 35 hours per week/five days per week (must be available work Friday and Sunday)
Compensation: $15.50-$16.28
Education Level: Enrollment in College/University
*The Marketing Assistant position may have the possibility of extension of employment for Sunday’s throughout the fall to support the continuation of the Sunday Market.

Museum Summer Program Coordinator
Summary: Reporting directly to the Manager of Culture / Curator, the Museum Summer Program Coordinator is the key summer position in the museum. The individual filling this important role will create, plan, and deliver a fun and imaginative children’s summer program/camp either virtually in a Camp-in-a-Box format using the museum’s social media platforms, or in-person at the museum. As a team leader, the Coordinator will be responsible for the summer programs and will administer the Museum in the absence of the Manager of Culture / Curator and Administrative Assistant. Demonstrated experience with children, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work with the public are required. Enrollment in a post-secondary History or Education program and knowledge of local and Canadian history would be an asset.
Term: May to August – 14 week term
Schedule: 30 hours per week – Monday to Friday
Compensation: $16.00 - $16.80

Museum Assistant
Summary: Working closely with the Museum Summer Program Coordinator, the Museum Assistant will assist with the creation and implementation of the children’s summer program which may be either virtual or in-person at the museum this summer, as well as, perform general museum duties. Ability to work with children and the general public are required. General computer skills and knowledge of local and Canadian history would be an asset.
Term: June to August - 11 week term (June to August)
Schedule: 30 hours per week – Monday to Friday
Compensation: $15.50-$16.28

Engineering Assistant
Summary: Reporting to the General Manager, Operations the Engineering Assistant will assist with updating and maintaining the Town’s GIS database and tree inventory/mapping program, participate in environmental (water/water pollution control) and civil engineering (road construction) projects and initiatives and support ongoing facility and asset management projects. Enrollment in a post secondary engineering or technology program such as Environmental, Civil or Science would be beneficial. Knowledge of ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Word and Excel, databases and records management software are an asset.
Term: May to August - 16 week term
Schedule: 35 hours per week – Monday to Friday
Compensation: $18.00-$18.90

Labourer/Attendant
Summary: The Labourer/Attendant positions will work within one of the following areas:

• Operations/Roads & Services
• Downtown
• Waterfront
• Parks
These positions will assist the Operations staff with a variety of duties including but not limited to road and sidewalk construction/repair, grounds keeping, general maintenance and ensuring the Town’s downtown, parks and waterfront are clean and presentable through general landscaping and cleaning. In addition, these positions may be required to assist with the Sunday Market with the set up and tear down of vendor booths and supporting the Marketing Assistant with public enquiries. A valid “G” driver’s license is required. Enrollment in a relevant post-secondary program with experience in construction and operating park maintenance equipment such as lawnmowers, weed eater, etc. would be an asset.
Term: May to August - 16 week term
Schedule: 40 hours per week (days vary – Some weekend work may be required)
Compensation: $16.00-$16.80

Summer Program Coordinator (Recreation)
Summary: Reporting to the Program and Events Coordinator, the Summer Program Coordinator will assist the Recreation Team with the development, planning, implementation and running of various sport leagues, programs and events held throughout the summer. Enrollment in a post- secondary recreation, event coordination, marketing or similar program would be beneficial. Strong organizational, interpersonal, relationship building, public speaking/ presentation and customer service skills are an asset.
Term: May to August - 16 week term
Schedule: 40 hours per week – Monday to Sunday
Compensation: $16.00-$16.80

Summer Program Coordinator (Camp Wanago)
Summary: Reporting to the Program and Events Coordinator, the Summer Program Coordinator (Camp Wanago) will be responsible for all aspects of seasonal programming for Camp Wanago. The Coordinator will develop, plan, implement, and run programs, train and provide leadership to the Day Camp Counsellors while ensuring quality, safety and innovation. Demonstrated relationship building and customer service experience is essential as this position is the primary contact for the parents. Enrollment in a post secondary Education program, a valid “G” driver’s license with use of a vehicle, CPR/First Aid training, strong organizational, interpersonal and communications skill along with previous experience in children’s programming and sports would be considered assets.
Term: May to August - 16 week term

Day Camp Counsellor
Summary: Working under the direction of the Summer Program Coordinator, the Day Camp Counsellors will support the Camp Wanago summer day camp and occasionally other recreational programs offered by the Recreation department. The responsibilities will include general supervision of children and the facilitation of activities including crafts, games, sports and day trips, all while maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone. This position will be required to assist with general set-up and cleanup of programs spaces, and ensuring they are safe and tidy. Previous experience working with children and CPR/First Aid training are an asset.
Term: June to August – 10 week term
Schedule: 40 hours per week – Monday to Friday
Compensation: $15.50-$16.28
Education Level: Enrollment in High School or College/University
