Job Description

Registered Early Childhood Educator
Split Shift Hours 7:00 to 9:00 and 2:30 to 5:30 with a possibility of additional hours up to an 8 hour day.
Full days on non school days.

Qualifications:

• Early Childhood Education Diploma
• Child and Youth Care Diploma
• Diploma in Recreation and Leisure Services
• Member in good standing with Ontario College of Teachers
• Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators
• Clear VSC Check
• Standard First Aid / CPR C
• Strong Leadership Skills
• Strong written and verbal skills

Responsibilities: To support the Supervisor in providing a quality program

• Plan, implement and supervise children in accordance with the Philosophy, Policies and procedures of the centre, the Ministry of Education and the EYCCA
• Responsible for the constant supervision, safety and wellbeing of the children
• Shares in the responsibility for planning, preparing and implementing stimulating, and age appropriate activities that encourage children’s creativity and learning and promote each child’s emotional, communication language and literacy, cognitive and physical development
• Recognizes and responds to the needs of each child by using developmentally appropriate teaching, engaging and child guidance techniques
• To help each child develop a good self-image and self-regulation strategies to support children in reaching their potential
• To stimulate language development through listening and reciprocal language
• Observes and records relevant information on each child’s progress as required
• Establishes and maintains regular communication with parents
• Keep current in the field of Early Childhood Education and participate in Professional Development “The College of Early Childhood Educators”
• Participates in the supervision, training and mentoring of students and supply teachers
• Ability to communicate in a sensitive courteous manner with children, parents, staff and the general public
• Liaise with agency representatives, as needed
• Attends and participates actively in all program/centre, parent, informal get togethers, staff meetings as required
• Shares responsibility for maintaining program equipment in good repair and toy and equipment disinfecting
• Shares responsibility for maintaining the play environments and storage areas in an organized and clutter free condition
• To prepare a program item list for purchases as needed
• Participates in regular fire drills and other emergency procedures
• Engages in positive collaboration with the other programs and early childhood educators of the centre
• Assists the Centre Director in maintain a safe and healthy work environment by promptly reporting any existing and/or potential workplace hazards
• Performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Centre Director or her/his designate
