Job Description

Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the Manager, Facilities & Parks, the part-time Facility Attendant will support and assist full-time staff to keep Municipal building and equipment maintained, clean, secure, ready and respectable for public use. General duties will include manual labour support for special events, games, tournaments, and town-run events and programs; supporting ice surface maintenance; cleaning both inside and outside of municipal buildings, snow removal, collection and disposal of trash, keeping sidewalks and entrances clear of debris, ensuring the safe use of cleaning chemicals, and operating custodial equipment such as a vacuum, floor buffer, mop/pail, broom and other resources and equipment as required. From May to October, the Facility Attendant may also support the operation of the Town’s Marina, helping to maintain clean and orderly grounds and buildings, ensuring adherence to safety procedures and Marina policies, and providing assistance to seasonal and transient boaters. Seasonally, the role also assists with general maintenance of parks, playgrounds, beaches, walking trails, and ball diamonds
Scope:
The main challenges of this position will be to adhere to the facility policies and related legislation, and to provide a positive environment for the general public and internal/external contacts.
Key Responsibilities/Duties:
The foregoing description reflects the general duties necessary to describe the principal functions of the job identified and shall not be construed to be all of the work requirements that may be inherent in this classification.
• Responsible for the cleanliness, maintenance, and general upkeep of all areas within municipal facilities including arenas, spectator seating, pool decks, change rooms, washrooms, lobbies, meeting rooms, staff areas, workshops, and storage spaces. Tasks include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, window cleaning, trash and recycling removal, and snow/ice removal from entrances and walkways.

• Assist full-time custodial staff and Facility Operators with daily tasks such as ice resurfacing, basic ice maintenance, removing nets, cleaning benches, and maintaining pool and arena cleanliness. Operate custodial and maintenance equipment including vacuums, floor buffers, mops, and brooms safely and effectively.
• Follow functional direction from the Operations Supervisor and/or full-time staff to coordinate daily duties. Perform general repairs, report supply needs or equipment issues, maintain inventory of cleaning products, and ensure logbooks are completed for snow removal and other required reporting.
• Carry out facility opening and closing procedures and assist with event and program setup and takedown. Provide general supervision during events, ensuring facility security, adherence to rental agreements, and a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all users.
• Seasonally assist Parks Operator with general maintenance for all parks, playgrounds, beaches, walking trails and ball diamonds. Operate leaf blower, weed whacker, mower as required
• From May to October, assist with the seasonal operation of the Marina by supporting boaters with docking, pump-out, and fuel services; maintaining accurate fuel records in accordance with Marina procedures and the Gasoline Handling Code; and processing payments for slips, fuel, and boat launches.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety at the Marina by performing regular inspections of docks, shoreline, and facilities; cleaning common areas; securing unattended boats; reporting unsafe conditions; and undertaking minor repairs and maintenance as needed.
• Provide customer service to a wide range of users — including Marina visitors, event participants, and community members — by answering inquiries, sharing information on rates, amenities, and local events, and resolving issues professionally and promptly.
• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with applicable legislation (including the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act), Town policies, and departmental procedures, while promoting a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
• Represent the Town of Arnprior in a courteous and professional manner, maintaining strong communication with supervisors and supporting team collaboration to meet daily operational needs.
Work Relations:
Internal: Operations Supervisor, Parks & Facilities Coordinator, full-time custodial staff, Facility Operators, Director of Recreation, and other Town staff.
External: The general public including facility users.

Working Conditions:
Physical Demands: The Facility Attendant will perform regular physical effort walking and may be required to walk on uneven and/or occasionally slippery surfaces. The position may require bending, turning, kneeling, reaching and grasping for objects, pushing/pulling, lifting and/or carrying heavy objects, climbing stairs and ladders. This position requires the Facility Attendant to work nights and weekends.
Environmental Conditions: The Facility Attendant will be exposed to cleaning chemicals, solvents, oil/grease that may result in occasional unpleasant fumes. The duties may include exposure to loud noises associated with the use of the equipment. The duties may also include working outside for long periods of time in direct sunlight.

Mental Demands: The Facility Attendant may occasionally have to manage a number of requests and tasks at one time while accommodating unplanned interruptions. Organizational and time management skills will be needed to complete the required tasks.
Statement of (Minimum Qualifications):
Education/Certification/Licenses
• Some completion of high school and/or equivalent. Preference may be given to applicants who have completed high school or equivalent.
Experience
• Three (3) months of similar working experience.
• Previous experience handling debit and credit transactions and understanding of related clerical procedures for preparing receipts, deposits.

Knowledge

• Basic knowledge of facility cleaning procedures, general knowledge of building maintenance practices and the aptitude for minor repairs.
• Knowledge of providing customer services and being able to assess needs to meet effective service delivery standards.
• General understanding of WHMIS legislation.
Skills/Abilities
• Ability to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check.
• Ability to exercise mature judgement in dealing appropriately with colleagues and members of the public.
• Demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently or within a team to meet the operational needs.
• Ability to develop and maintain a working knowledge of safety precautions and hazards involved with the work assigned.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate tactfully, effectively and in a professional manner.
• Physically capable to perform general cleaning and maintenance duties.
• Capable of following safe work practices and procedures.

Asset Qualifications
• First Aid and CPR-AED Certification preferred.
• Previous experience with gas handling, knowledge of WHMIS 2015, basic occupational health and safety knowledge would be an asset.
• Valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s license.
• Previous occupational health and safety knowledge would be an asset.
• High Five Certifications
• Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA) certification
