Kitchen Staff Job Description

We are looking for a dependable, hardworking Kitchen Staff member to join our team. Our restaurant serves a close-knit community and regularly experiences busy periods during local events, festivals, and private functions with up to 100 guests. The ideal candidate is a team player who works efficiently under pressure while maintaining high standards of food quality, cleanliness, and customer service.

Responsibilities

Food Preparation

* Prepare ingredients according to recipes and chef instructions, including washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, and portioning.
* Assist with preparing menu items during service.
* Stock and organize prep stations before each shift.
* Rotate inventory using FIFO (First In, First Out) practices.
* Label and store food safely in accordance with food safety standards.
* Notify supervisors when supplies or ingredients are running low.

Kitchen Operations

* Support cooks and kitchen leadership during lunch, dinner, and special event service.
* Maintain an organized and efficient workstation throughout the shift.
* Assist with plating and garnishing when required.
* Restock ingredients, containers, utensils, and supplies during service.
* Help receive and properly store deliveries.

Cleaning & Sanitation

* Wash dishes, cookware, utensils, and kitchen equipment promptly.
* Operate commercial dishwashing equipment safely.
* Clean food preparation surfaces, cutting boards, sinks, and equipment throughout the day.
* Sweep and mop kitchen floors.
* Remove garbage and recycling as needed.
* Complete end-of-day cleaning duties and closing checklists.
* Follow all sanitation and food handling regulations.

Teamwork

* Communicate effectively with kitchen and front-of-house staff.
* Assist wherever needed to keep service running smoothly.
* Adapt to changing priorities during busy periods.
* Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to a respectful workplace.

Qualifications

* Previous kitchen experience is an asset but not required; training will be provided.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong organizational and time management skills.
* Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
* Reliable, punctual, and willing to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
* Food Handler Certification is an asset.
