Executive Director (Permanent, Part-Time)
The Lanark Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) is seeking a part-time Executive Director (ED) to lead our organization. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker with excellent interpersonal skills, a solid background in business and finance, and a passion for fostering a positive and collaborative work culture.
As Executive Director, you will guide LAWS toward measurable, sustainable success while supporting a dedicated team of animal care staff and a committed group of volunteers.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Board President and accountable to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will oversee the organization’s day-to-day operations and long-term direction.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead daily operations, including overseeing staff, managing relationships with vendors and partners, and procurement
• Manage the organization’s financials, including monthly financial reporting and budget development
• Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and charity requirements
• Support staff and volunteers, fostering a positive team environment
• Lead and support fundraising initiatives, including events and community engagement
• Address workplace challenges proactively, including leading conflict resolution
• Adapt to changing needs to ensure the organization’s ongoing sustainability
What We’re Looking For:
• Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills
• Experience in business and financial management, preferably with a registered charity or not-for-profit organization
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities, with experience managing direct reports
• A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset
• Knowledge of charitable sector regulations is an asset

Hours and Compensation:
This is a part-time, permanent position located on-site at our shelter at 253 Glenview Rd, Smiths Falls, ON. The successful candidate can expect to work approximately 22.5 - 30.0 hours per week, with occasional evenings and weekends. Compensation will be determined with the successful candidate based on the candidate’s experience related to the position.
